As part of my final project for the Google UX course, I was tasked with creating an app for the community from ideation to complete visual design mockups. The goal is to create an app and responsive website to help connect neighbors and engage in a mutual aid project. This may be particularly useful for people who may be unhoused temporarily or suffering from a recent job loss. There are many resources that people can utilize to find the help they need. Food, shelter, etc. There is not currently a place for people in the community to offer their help and additional resources to those who may need it around them. We all need support at different points in our life. For this community-sourced mutual aid app, I wanted to make sure the colors were bright and welcoming. The last thing I wanted was for the app to feel dated and like another government website offering resources. The CTAs are big and bold and the app itself is simple with (2) main sections: Get Aid and Give Aid. By connecting people in the community to real-time needs from others around them, people were given opportunities to be generous with their time, money, etc. and the people who needed it most were able to quickly get a need met. We are all capable of helping others and may find ourselves needing help in the future as well. There are already a lot of really great resources available in our communities – there is also always room for improvement. Empathizing with others can lead to much better communities for everyone if we’d take a minute to walk in another’s shoes.
